Preparation for Reforestation: Returning a Forest to Nature

The People's Forest has been a work in progress since 2021 and is the result of a rewilding plan developed to enhance the ecosystem of Veasey Memorial Park. This plan aims not only to improve the park's biodiversity but also to provide enrichment, inspiration, and education to visitors. One of the key components of this plan involves implementing the Miyawaki method of planting in collaboration with the local community and the Massachusetts Master Gardeners. The Miyawaki method, known for its efficiency in creating dense, native forests in urban areas, will help restore and diversify the park's vegetation, creating a more sustainable and resilient ecosystem. By involving the local community and the expertise of the Master Gardeners, this re-wilding project not only benefits the park itself but also fosters a sense of ownership and stewardship among the residents, promoting environmental awareness and conservation efforts in the region.

A core team of MA Master Gardeners continued to clear and prepare the space for the huge April 2024 baby tree planting event.
